Material Reprocess#

Overview#

The Material Reprocess feature allows operators to return a Material, such as a PCB, to a manufacturing process for additional verification, testing, or processing.

The system determines automatically the target Step from the Material's latest execution history and current flow context.

Concept#

The operator selects Reprocess for one Material, reviews the resolved routing when the wizard is enabled, and decides whether to track the Material into the process Resource automatically.

The action is available in the following views:

View How to choose the Material Action location
Material entity page Open the Material entity page. Material action bar.
Resource entity page > Views > Dispatch View Select exactly one Material in the Dispatch List or Materials at Resource. Materials action bar.
Step entity page > Views > Step View Select exactly one Material in the Step Materials list. Step Materials action bar.

Selecting a row only identifies the Material for the action. The operator must click Reprocess to start the operation.

Functional Behavior#

Preconditions / Constraints#

Before Reprocess becomes available, the system checks that:

  • The operator has access to SMT.PerformMaterialReprocess.
  • Exactly one Material is available in the action context.
  • The Material System State is Queued or Processed.
  • The Material is not on hold.
  • The Material complies with the configured reprocess limits.
  • The Material last process Step is in the Material's current main Flow or main FLow Line Flow.

For the limit rules, see Reprocess Limits.

System Configuration#

Both configuration entries are under /SMT/MaterialTracking/ReprocessMaterials/.

Configuration Initial value Behavior
AllowWizardlessReprocessOperation false When false, clicking Reprocess opens the wizard. When true, clicking Reprocess retrieves the routing and executes the operation without displaying the wizard.
AllowAutomaticTrackInAtProcessResource true Sets the initial Automatic Track-In choice returned with the routing information. The operator can change this choice in the wizard. In wizardless mode, the configured value is used.

Wizardless operation

With AllowWizardlessReprocessOperation = true, clicking Reprocess executes the operation without a separate wizard confirmation. Selecting a Material alone does not execute it.

For the configuration reference, see Configuration Entries.

Trigger#

To reprocess a Material:

  1. Open Material Details, or select exactly one Material in Resource View or Step Materials.
  2. Select Reprocess in the relevant action bar.
  3. If the wizard is displayed, review Reprocess Details and the resolved target routing.
  4. Set Automatic Track-In At Process Resource as required.
  5. Select Finish to execute the operation.

When wizardless operation is enabled, steps 3 to 5 are skipped and the operation runs after clicking Reprocess.

Wizard Behavior#

The Details step displays the resolved Reprocess Type and applicable main-flow or line-flow routing information. Depending on the scenario, this includes the Flow, Flow Path, Step, Line, and process Resource.

Routing fields are read-only. Automatic Track-In At Process Resource is the operation setting the operator can change before selecting Finish.

System Actions#

When Reprocess is executed, the system:

  1. Validates the Material's state, holds, and reprocess limits.
  2. Resolves the routing using GetDataForPerformMaterialReprocess.
  3. Moves the Material to the resolved main-flow or line-flow process using PerformMaterialReprocess.
  4. Re-associates the Material with the Line when the resolved scenario requires it.
  5. Tracks the Material into the process Resource if Automatic Track-In is enabled.
  6. Returns the resulting Material and displays success or error feedback.

Reprocess Routing Determination#

The system resolves one of four reprocess types:

Reprocess Type Scenario and behavior
Main Flow Current Process The Material remains at its last processed main-flow Step. Reprocess returns it to that process.
Main Flow Previous Process The Material has moved beyond its last processed main-flow Step. Reprocess returns it to the previous process.
Line Flow Previous Process The last process belongs to a Line Flow, but the Material is now outside that Line Flow. Reprocess returns it to the applicable line process and re-associates it with a Line lot.
Line Flow Current Process The Material is still in the Line Flow. Reprocess returns it to the applicable process; at the last line Step, removal and reinsertion can be required.

For line reinsertion, the operation can reuse a compatible lot attached to the target Line Resource if it exists, or create a new lot.

Reprocess Limit Validation#

The SMTReprocessLimitContext Smart Table defines the permitted number of reprocesses, not an elapsed time.

The initial processing pass is excluded from the reprocess count. A maximum reprocess limit of 0 allows initial processing but blocks subsequent reprocessing at the matched Step.

Automatic Track-In#

When enabled, the Material is moved to the resolved Step and tracked into the target process Resource. For a Material outside a Line Step, dispatch and track-in are performed together. A Material already in a Line Step is tracked in directly.

Automatic Track-In requires a valid target process Resource. If no such Resource can be resolved, the backend rejects the operation with error feedback.

When disabled, reprocess routing still runs, but the final automatic track-in of the reprocessed Material is omitted.

Service Interaction#

Service Purpose
GetDataForPerformMaterialReprocess Validates the Material and retrieves the routing information. It is also called when checking whether the action can execute.
PerformMaterialReprocess Validates the Material again, performs the routing, and applies the Automatic Track-In choice.
