Generate a Shift Handover Summary with AI#

Estimated time to read: 2 minutes

This tutorial shows how to create a handover summary for the Cookie Factory production team before the incoming shift reviews the Shift Logbook.

Before You Start#

Make sure that:

  • An Active Shift Logbook exists for the Cookie Factory Area.
  • You have permission to create Shift Logbook entries.
  • AI is configured and you have access to AI.ViewSummary.

For complete operation requirements, see Generate Shift Handover Summary.

Cookie Factory Scenario

The Cookie Factory scenario is an example only. Use a Shift Logbook, Area, and entries available in your environment. Adapt the object names to your own scenario.

Create Shift Logbook Entries#

The morning shift at Cookie Factory is ending. Before the next shift starts, the supervisor needs to provide a concise handover that covers the production, quality, and maintenance events recorded during the shift.

Create representative Shift Logbook entries for the following events:

  • A production delay at the Mixing Step.
  • A quality-related observation for Cookie01 Material.
  • A maintenance action related to Chocolate_Oven-01 Resource.

Generate the Summary#

  1. Open the applicable Shift Logbook for the Cookie Factory Area.
  2. Review the entries created during the shift.
  3. Select View Summary.
  4. Review the generated Shift Handover Summary.

Generated Shift Handover Summary

The summary combines the applicable Shift Logbook entries with activity information available for the Area during the Shift.

Review the Summary#

Confirm that the summary addresses the events that require follow-up:

  • The production delay and its operational impact.
  • The quality observation for Cookie01.
  • The maintenance action for Chocolate_Oven-01.

Generated Shift Handover Summary result

Verify the relevant information against the applicable MES records before the incoming supervisor signs off the Shift Logbook.
