Create Batch#
Batch.Create
Overview#
In order to create a Batch, select New from the Batch Entity Type page. A template can also be created using a similar procedure and there is also the possibility of using a template to create the new object as well. This selection can be done in the main entity menu. You can also create a New Batch from the Resource View by selecting the option Create Batch for Resource or from the Material page by selecting the option Create Batch for Material.
Setup#
No specific setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction.
Preconditions#
- The Batch name must be provided and must be unique.
- The Resource must be Active and non-template.
- The Resource Material Processing Mode must be Batch.
- The Step must be Active and non-template.
- Containers can only be added to the Batch if a Batch Container Type is defined. All added Containers must match that type, be in the same Facility as the Batch Resource, be Active, and non-templates.
Sequence of Steps#
You can create a Batch from the Batch entity in the Business Data menu by selecting the New button. You can also create a Batch from the Material page or from the Resource Details View or Resource View, as shown below.
When creating a Batch from the Material page, the system automatically pre-selects the chosen Material in Step 2 of the wizard.
Similarly, creating a Batch from the Resource View pre-selects the corresponding Resource in Step 1. If you also choose Materials while creating a Batch from the Resource View, the system will pre-select both the Resource and Step in Step 1 and the chosen Materials in Step 2.
After starting the Create Batch wizard, the system will allow you to configure the new entity through a number of steps.
Step 1: General Data#
- Optionally, enter a name for the Batch. If you do not enter a name, the system will generate one for you.
- Optionally, enter a description.
-
Select a Resource.
Info
Only Resources with Batch Scheduling Type will be available for selection. For more information, see Manage Batching.
-
Select a Step.
- Optionally, define the Priority.
Step 2: Materials#
In this wizard, you can add or remove Batch Materials by selecting the icon to add or the icon to remove materials. For a Material to be eligible as a Batch Material, it must have a defined Capacity Class.
Each Batch must have a designated Main Material, which you can set by enabling the Set as Main Material option. The Main Material dictates the Batch Size, which is displayed in the bar below the Material list. The Batch Size is limited by both minimum and maximum quantities:
- The minimum quantity is determined by the Minimum Batch Capacity Usage, which is configured in the Manage Batching section.
- The maximum quantity is defined in the ResourceCapacity Smart Table.
When adding more than one Batch Material, a Material Search field will be available with four options:
- Any
- Same Batch Service
- Same Batch Step and Service
- Specific Batch Product and Step
When selecting the last option, Specific Batch Product and Step, only Materials for the same Product and Step will be available for selection.
For any Material that is not Set as Main Material, you can select a different Step from the Batch Step, as long as the Required Service of the selected Step is either available on the Batch Resource or is a Compatible Service of one of the Resource available Services. For more information, see Manage Compatible Services.
To align the selected Material with the Batch Step, you can also use the Apply Batch Step button.
Step 3: Containers#
In this wizard, you may add or remove Batch Containers by selecting to add, or to remove.
Note
When you create a Batch, the system automatically creates a Resource Job. For more information, see Resource Job.
