# Open Checklist Instance for Material

## Overview

Opens a **Checklist** Instance for a **Material**. The **Checklist** may have **Data Collections** or **BOMs** associated with it and it will be accessible through the **Checklist** details page.

## Setup

No special setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction.

## Preconditions

* The **Material** exists, is Active and non-template.
* The **Material** is not In Transit.
* The **Checklist** is Active or Checklist Version is Effective.
* The **Checklist** is of scope Material Tracking and the Execution mode is Long Running.

## Sequence of Steps

To open a **Checklist** Instance for a **Material**, follow the steps below:

1. Choose a suitable **Checklist**.
2. Select the **Open For Material** button on the top ribbon.
3. Select a **Material**.
4. Select the **Open** button to conclude the operation.
