# Change Material Characteristics

## Overview

This operation is used to change the material characteristic values of a **Material**.

## Setup

No special setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction.

## Preconditions

* The **Material** is Active.
* Either the **Material** has Characteristics or the associated **Product** has Characteristics.
* The **Material** is a TopMost Material and it is not In Process.

## Sequence of Steps

The Change Material Characteristics wizard can be called from the **Change** button on the top ribbon or directly from the Characteristics section of the **Material** page.

1. You have three action buttons as follows:

    * **Synchronize** - removes characteristics that are associated with the **Material** but are not in the **Product**, and adds characteristics that should be in the **Material** because they are in the **Product** (the order of the **Material** characteristics will follow the order of the **Product** characteristics).

    * **Add Missing** - adds missing characteristics to the end of the list of already existing characteristics.
    * **Remove** - removes one or all of the characteristics.
  
2. Change the value of the existing **Material** Characteristics. For this operation, you must provide a value for each characteristic, either by entering manually as free text or by selecting a predefined value from the specified Source Lookup Table.

3. Select **Change** to complete the operation.
