--- alias: user-guide-create-substrate-map-overlay tags: - mapping description: "Create a Substrate Map Overlay version, selecting a base and applying a bin converter" --- # Create Substrate Map Overlay :lock: SubstrateMap.**CreateOverlay** ## Overview This operation is used to create a new **Substrate Map** Overlay version by selecting an Overlay base and it also has the option of applying a **Bin Converter**. ## Preconditions * The **Substrate Map** to be updated is Active in the system. * The Overlay within the **Substrate Map** to be used as a base is of type `BinCodeMap`. ## Setup No specific setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction. ## Sequence of Steps The **Create Overlay** wizard can be called from the **Substrate Map** page within the Business Data Group. In **Views**, select **Content**, select an Overlay of type `BinCodeMap`, and then select the **Create Overlay** button on the top ribbon: ![Screenshot showing a Substrate Map page with the Create Overlay wizard open, selecting an Overlay of type BinCodeM.](images/create_substrate_map_01b.png) ### Step 1: General Data 1. Configure the optional settings for the new Overlay: * **Synchronize Quantity** - enables synchronization of the **Substrate Map** with the **Material** quantity. For more information, see [[user-guide-set-material-substrate-map]]. If enabled, [[user-guide-create-substrate-map-overlay#step-2-synchronization|Step 2: Synchronization]] will be available. !!! note You can define the default value for the Synchronize Quantity by editing the entry Context = `SubstrateMap.CreateMapOverlay` for the Element = `Synchronize` in the [[guielementdefaultvalue-gt]] Generic Table. * **Copy Overlay Information** - if enabled, the Substrate Map Overlay Information from the original **Substrate Map** are copied into the newly created Overlay. For more information, see [[user-guide-manage-substrate-map-overlay-information]]. !!! note You can define the default value for the Copy Overlay Information by editing the entry Context = `SubstrateMap.CreateMapOverlay` for the Element = `CopyOverlayInformation` in the [[guielementdefaultvalue-gt]] Generic Table. * **Set Overlay as Active** - if enabled, the newly created Overlay will become the active version. When an Overlay is marked as Active, the system visually identifies it by displaying a :material-circle:{ class="twemoji green-icon small-icon" } next to the corresponding version. ![Create substrate map overlay](images/set_overlay_as_active.png) 2. Select a **Bin Converter** to be applied. You can select: * The **Substrate Map** default **Bin Converter** (if any). * Any of the **Substrate Map** Overlay **Bin Converter**. * Any **Bin Converter**. 3. You can create a new: * **Version for Current Map Name** - creates a new version for the currently selected Map Name. * **Version for Another Map Name** - creates a new version based on an existing Map Name. This option is available only if other Overlays of type `BinCodeMap` exist. In this case, select the Overlay that will serve as the source. * **New Map Name** - creates a new Map Name with version 1. When selecting this option, you must provide the following information: * **Overlay** - select the Overlay that will be associated with the new Map Name. * **Facility** - optionally, associate a **Facility**. * **Step** - optionally, associate a **Step**. * **Resource** - optionally, associate a **Resource**. !!! info Regardless of whether the Copy Overlay Information option is enabled, if the Step and the Resource were defined in previous versions and are left empty when creating a new Map Name, the system automatically inherits the most recently defined values. === "Version for Current Map Name" ![Create substrate map overlay](images/create_substrate_map_overlay_current_name.png) === "Version for Another Map Name" ![Create substrate map overlay](images/create_substrate_map_overlay_another_name.png) === "New Map Name" ![Create substrate map overlay](images/create_substrate_map_overlay_new_name.png) !!! note The Overlay will always be created under the Base Substrate Map. 4. Select **Create** to complete the operation. ### Step 2: Synchronization 1. If you want to synchronize the **Substrate Map** with the **Material**, enable Synchronize Quantity property. This option is available only if the operations described in [[user-guide-set-material-substrate-map]] and [[user-guide-synchronize-material-substrate-map]] have been previously performed. ![Screenshot showing a UI with options to enable synchronization, including "Synchronize Quantity" checkbox.](images/create_sub_map_overlay_03.png) 2. Select **Next**. 3. Confirm the information on the screen. 4. Optionally, enter a Loss reason. 5.
