# Create Asset Directory

## Overview

This operation is used to create an **Asset Directory**.

## Setup

No specific setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction.

## Preconditions

* The IoT Data Platform module is properly licensed in the system.

## Sequence of Steps

### Step 1: General Data

1. Navigate to the **Data Platform** menu and select **Asset Directory** in the **Asset Management** section.
2. Select the **Create** button on the top ribbon.
3. Provide a name for the **Asset Directory**.
4. Optionally, provide a description of the **Asset Directory**.
5. Define whether the **Asset Directory** is a Manufacturing **Asset Directory**.

    !!! warning
        There can only be one Manufacturing Asset Directory in the system.

6. Define whether the **Asset Directory** is the default **Asset Directory**.

    !!! note
        If an Asset Directory is set as default, all other Asset Directories in the system will have the same property marked as `false`.

7. Select **Create** to complete the operation.
