# Connect Asset

## Overview

This operation is used to connect to an **Asset**.

## Setup

No specific setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction.

## Preconditions

* The IoT Data Platform module is properly licensed in the system.
* The **Asset** exists in the system and is not an **Asset Template**.

## Sequence of Steps

The Connect Asset wizard can be called from the **Asset Directory** page within the **Data Platform** menu.

### Step 1: General Data

1. Select the **Asset Directory** from the dropdown box on the left side of the screen.
2. Select the appropriate **Asset** from the **Asset Directory** tree.
3. Select **Connect** in the **More** button on the top ribbon.
4. Select the Asset Key ID that will be used to connect to this **Asset**.
5. The Asset Key will be automatically generated. If needed, select the **Generate** button to force the system to create a new key.
6. Select **Update** to complete the operation.
