--- alias: barcodes-section description: "This documentation explains how to manage barcode IDs within entity pages" --- # Barcodes The **Barcodes** section appears in any Entity Page with the Allow Barcode IDs property enabled. It displays available **Barcodes** for identifying specific entities, such as **Materials**, **Resources**, and **Containers**. To view this section, navigate to the **Administration** panel, select **Entity Types**, and enable the Allow Barcode IDs property. ![barcodes](../../images/allow_barcode_ids.png) !!! smart-barcode "Smart Barcode Scanning" You can also configure [[smart-barcode-scanning|Smart Barcodes]]. **Barcodes** are used to register **Materials**, in Weigh and Dispense scenarios or in Connect IoT/Factory Automation scenarios, as well as authentication strategies in Security Portal, but they can be integrated into any custom UI Page using a specific widget. For more information on how to use Barcodes, see [[find-entity-control]] and [[barcode-identification-index]]. In addition, it enables you to manage and edit these barcode IDs through a specific section within the Entity page. ![Screenshot showing a list of barcode IDs.](../../images/barcodes.png) ## Manage Barcodes :lock: EntityType.**ManageBarcodes** ## Overview This operation is used to manage the barcode IDs associated to a specific Entity. ## Setup No setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction. ## Preconditions * The Entity must have the **Allow Barcode IDs** flag enabled. ## Sequence of Steps ### Step 1 1. Choose an appropriate Entity, navigate to the **Barcodes** section and select the **Manage** button. 2. Add as many barcode IDs as desired using one of the available methods in the top right of the grid: * Select :material-plus: to add a new barcode ID through text entry. * Select :material-camera: to add a new barcode ID by scanning it through an available webcam. * Select :material-keyboard: to add a new barcode ID through text entry or using a barcode reader. * Select :material-trash-can: to remove an existing barcode ID. 3.
