--- alias: tutorials-carrier-management-scenario-attaching-single-carrier description: "Run the first carrier scenario by attaching a single carrier to a material before it moves to the next step." --- # Attaching a Single Carrier to a Material This scenario describes how to attach a single carrier to a single material. Consider the `SemiFGLotCreation` **Step** at the `SemiFG` **Flow**. ![Diagram showing the flows for FGood, SemiFG, SemiFGCarriers, and Frames, and how the system adds carriers to, and removes them from, the SemiFG material as it moves through the flow.](images/carrier_scenarios_overview.png) ## Preconditions At the `SemiFGLotCreation` **Step**: - The system creates a new `SemiFG.01` **Material**. - The **MaterialCarrierContext** table has an entry that defines an `Add` **Operation** for `SemiFGCarriers`. In the shop floor, the system requires an operator to attach a SemiFG **Carrier** to allow the **Material** to move on. ![Screenshot showing the MaterialCarrierContext entry that requires a SemiFG Carrier at the SemiFGLotCreation step.](images/scenario_material_carrier_context.png) - The **Carrier Material Verification Mode** is set to `At Move Next`. If the operator does not attach a `SemiFGCarrier` to `SemiFG.01`, the system prevents the **Move Next** action and displays an error indicating the required carrier is missing. ![Screenshot showing the MaterialCarrierContext entry that requires a SemiFG Carrier at the SemiFGLotCreation step.](images/scenario1_carrier_verification_mode.png) ## Sequence of Steps ### 1. Open the `SemiFGLotCreation` **Step**. Login to MES and proceed as follows: 1. On the left side menu, select **Business Data** 2. On the **Business Data** panel, select **Step**. 3. In the search box, type `SemiFGLotCreation`. 4. Select the corresponding **Step** from the search results. ### 2. Open the **Manage Carrier Materials** wizard Open the **Manage Carrier Materials** wizard for the `SemiFG.01` **Material** at the `SemiFGLotCreation` **Step**. 1. On the top ribbon, select the **Step View** tab. 2. On the Materials table, select the `SemiFG.01` checkbox. 3. On the top ribbon, select **More**. 4. On the dropdown menu, select **Manage** from the **Carrier Materials** section. ![Screenshot showing the Step View with the Manage Carrier Materials option under More.](images/scenario1_manage_carrier_material_option.png) ### 3. Assign the correct SemiFG **Carrier** to each sub-material. 1. Select a sub-material from the list. 2. In the **Carrier Material** field, assign carrier from the list. For example, `SemiFGCarriers.01`. 3. Select the **Save** button to save the assignment. ![Screenshot showing the Manage Carrier Materials dialog with a SemiFG Carrier assigned to each sub-material.](images/scenario1_assign_carrier.png) ## Result After you attach a SemiFG **Carrier** as a sub-material, the **Material** can proceed. You can see the sub-materials with the attached carriers on the sub-material list of the `SemiFG.01` **Material**. You can also trace the material and carrier associations as the flows progress. ![Screenshot showing the Carriers tab with the attached SemiFG Carriers recorded for each sub-material.](images/scenario1_carrier_submaterial_list.png) Once attached, the state of the carriers changes to `Durable`. Note that you cannot assign the same carrier to another sub-material. To assign the same carrier to more than one material, you must set the **Allow Shared Carriers** flag to `true` in the **MaterialCarrierContext** table. ![Screenshot showing the CarrierStorage step with the attached carriers in the Durable state.](images/scenario1_carrier_storage_state.png) Next scenario: [[tutorials-carrier-management-scenario-multiple-carriers]]
