--- alias: tutorials-carrier-management-scenario-multiple-carriers description: "Run the second carrier scenario by requiring a second carrier while the first carrier stays attached." --- # Attaching Multiple Carriers to a Material This tutorial describes how to attach a second carrier to a **Material** that already has a carrier attached. The `SemiFG.01` has two carriers attached simultaneously: - The first carrier was attached at the `SemiFGLotCreation` **Step**. - The second carrier will be attached at the `Lamination` **Step**. ![Diagram showing the flows for FGood, SemiFG, SemiFGCarriers, and Frames, and how the system adds carriers to, and removes them from, the SemiFG material as it moves through the flow.](images/carrier_scenarios_overview.png) ## Preconditions - The `SemiFG.01` **Material** already has a carrier attached, assigned at the `SemiFGLotCreation` **Step**. - The `SemiFG.01` **Material** has reached the `Lamination` **Step**. - A **Material Carrier Context** entry defines an `Add` **Operation** for Frames at the `Lamination` **Step**. - The source step of the Frames carrier is `FramesStorage`. - The **Assignment Mode** is `Sub Material`. ![Screenshot showing the Material Carrier Context entry that requires a Frame at the Lamination step.](images/scenario_material_carrier_context.png) - At the `Lamination` step, the **Carrier Material Verification Mode** is set to `At Move Next`. If the operator does not attach a Frame to `SemiFG.01`, the system prevents the **Move Next** action and displays an error indicating the required carrier is missing. ## Sequence of Steps ### 1. Open the `Lamination` **Step**. Login to MES and proceed as follows: 1. On the left side menu, select **Business Data**. 2. On the **Business Data** panel, select **Step**. 3. In the search box, type `Lamination`. 4. Select the corresponding **Step** from the search results. ### 2. Open the **Manage Carrier Materials** wizard Open the **Manage Carrier Materials** wizard for the `SemiFG.01` **Material** at the `Lamination` **Step**. 1. On the top ribbon, select the **Step View** tab. 2. On the Materials table, select the `SemiFG.01` checkbox. 3. On the top ribbon, select **More**. 4. On the dropdown menu, select **Manage** from the **Carrier Materials** section. ### 3. Assign the second carrier to each sub-material. 1. Select a sub-material from the list. 2. In the **Carrier Material** field, assign a carrier from the list. For example, `Frames-01`. 3. Select the **Save** button to save the assignment. ![Screenshot showing the Manage Carrier Materials dialog with a Frame assigned to each sub-material.](images/scenario2_assign_frames.png) ## Result After you attach the frame carriers to the `SemiFG.01` material, `SemiFG` has two carriers attached at the same time: - The original `SemiFGCarrier`, attached at the `SemiFGLotCreation` step. - The new `Frame` carrier, attached at the `Lamination` step. `SemiFG.01` material can now proceed. ![Screenshot showing the Carriers tab listing both the SemiFG Carrier and the Frame attached to each sub-material.](images/scenario2_two_carriers_list.png) Once attached, the state of the carriers changes to `Durable`. Note that you cannot assign the same carrier to another sub-material. To assign the same carrier to more than one material, you must set the **Allow Shared Carriers** flag to `true` in the **MaterialCarrierContext** table. ![Screenshot showing the FramesStorage step with the attached carriers in the Durable state.](images/scenario2_frames_as_durables.png) After you validate that the **Material** carries both **Carriers** simultaneously, you can continue to the next scenario, which removes one of the two attached carriers while the other stays attached.
