--- alias: user-guide-master-data-export description: "Export data from the system via an Excel file for mass updates and configuration" --- # Master Data Export :lock: Administration.**MasterDataExport** **Master Data Export** is used to export one or more objects into a Critical Manufacturing MES environment through the use of an Excel file that complies with the Master Data file structure. This feature also allows any authorized user to perform mass updates into the system. The **Master Data Export** page is available in the Administration page group. ![Export Data to File wizard](images/export_data_wizard.png) !!! info For more specific features, formats and configurations of the packages that can be used in this section, see [[master-data-packages-tutorial]]. ## Export Data to File You can export these Entity Types: === "Non-Versioned Entities" * [[user-guide-area-index]] * [[user-guide-automation-manager-index]] * [[user-guide-bin-converter-index]] * [[user-guide-business-partner-index]] * [[user-guide-calendar-index]] * [[user-guide-certification-index]] * [[user-guide-change-set-index]] * [[user-guide-chart-index]] * [[user-guide-container-index]] * [[user-guide-dee-actions|DEE Action]] * [[user-guide-employee-index]] * [[user-guide-enterprise-page]] * [[user-guide-event-rules-index]] * [[user-guide-facility-index]] * [[user-guide-iot-event-definition-index]] * [[user-guide-kpi-index]] * [[user-guide-map-index]] * [[user-guide-map-definition-index]] * [[user-guide-material-index]] * [[user-guide-ml-model-index]] * [[user-guide-notification-index]] * [[user-guide-parameter-index]] * [[user-guide-plan-index]] * [[user-guide-printing-integration]] * [[user-guide-production-order-index]] * [[user-guide-qualification-index]] * [[user-guide-reason-index]] * [[user-guide-resource-index]] * [[user-guide-rule-index]] * [[user-guide-sampling-pattern-index]] * [[user-guide-sampling-plan-index]] * [[user-guide-schedule-index]] * [[user-guide-send-ahead-run-index]] * [[user-guide-service-index]] * [[user-guide-setup-matrix-index]] * [[user-guide-shift-definition-index]] * [[user-guide-shift-plan-index]] * [[user-guide-site-index]] * [[user-guide-sort-rule-set-index]] * [[user-guide-step-index]] * [[user-guide-substrate-map-index]] * [[user-guide-substrate-map-mask-index]] * [[user-guide-task-index]] * [[user-guide-team-index]] * [[user-guide-timers|Timer]] === "Versioned Entities" * [[user-guide-automation-controller-index]] * [[user-guide-automation-driver-definition-index]] * [[user-guide-automation-protocol-index]] * [[user-guide-automation-workflow-index]] * [[user-guide-bom-index]] * [[user-guide-checklist-index]] * [[user-guide-data-collection-index]] * [[user-guide-data-collection-limit-set-index]] * [[user-guide-document-index]] * [[user-guide-experiment-definition-index]] * [[user-guide-flow-index]] * [[user-guide-inspection-plan-index]] * [[user-guide-maintenance-plan-index]] * [[user-guide-product-index]] * [[user-guide-product-group-index]] * [[user-guide-protocol-index]] * [[user-guide-recipe-index]] To export data, follow the steps below. ### Step 1: Types !!! note When you open the wizard from a single DEE Action, the wizard jumps straight to the File Information step and skips the Types and Items steps, because the action is already selected. For more information, see [[user-guide-dee-actions]]. 1. Open **Master Data Export** and select the object types that you want to export. You can **Select All Items**, which will include items that are not currently visible on the screen, or only the ones you need: ![Types step with selected object types](images/export_data_types_step.png) 2. Select **Next** to continue. ### Step 2: Items 1. Use the Expand all to see the rows of the Instance(s) of your selected types. You can **Select All Items**, which will include items that are not currently visible on the screen, or only the ones you need: ![Items step with the instances of the selected types](images/export_data_items_step.png) 2. Select **Next** to continue. ### Step 3: File Information 1. You can choose to **Append** to an existing file or **Create** a new one: ![File Information step](images/export_data_file_information.png) 2. You can also **Override Existing Objects** as needed. 3. Select **Export** and then open your file: ![Exported Excel worksheet with materials](images/export_data_excel_materials.png) ![Exported Excel worksheet with checklists](images/export_data_excel_checklists.png) ![Exported Excel worksheet with checklist activities](images/export_data_excel_checklist_activities.png) !!! info When you export a Resource, the generated file includes its associated Personnel Requirements. For more information on managing these requirements, see [[user-guide-manage-personnel-resource]]. The Master Data Loader enables you to import files for various Entity Types that support external properties. For more information, see [[tutorials-helpful-tips#importing-files-using-the-master-data-loader|Importing Files using the Master Data Loader]]. For some entities, such as Material or Production Order, the exported Flow Path column uses `Position` notation instead of the `CorrelationId` values. For more information on Flow Path, see [[user-guide-flow-index]]. When an exported value exceeds the Excel cell limit of 32,767 characters, such as an Automation Controller workflow, the value is written to a separate file and the cell keeps an `mdfile://` reference to it. In this case, the download is a `.zip` archive that contains the master data file together with the referenced files, and it can be imported back without any manual editing. For more information, see [[master-data-external-files-tutorial]]. ## Export Process For Individual Entities You can also export data for individual entities. For more information, see [[user-guide-export-and-import]].
