--- alias: user-guide-automation-converter-stringconcatenate description: "This tool combines input strings into a single output string" --- # String Concatenate This converter concatenates a supplied value string with the value received in the input. ## Settings | Name | Data Type | Possible Values | Description | |-------- | ----------- | ----------- | ----------- | | where | `String` | `Start`
`End` | Beginning of the original string | | value | `String` | | End of the original string | Table 1: Settings ![Screenshot showing a settings page with a field labeled "converter string" and another labeled "concatenate".](./images/converter_string_concatenate.png) ## Examples | Input | `where` | `value` | Output | | ------- | ---------------- | -------- | ----------------------------------------- | | `World` | `Start` | `Hello` (with trailing space) | `Hello World` | | `Hello` | `End` | `World` (with leading space) | `Hello World` | | `Hello` | *(unrecognized)* | `World` (with leading space) | `Hello` (input is returned unchanged). | Table 2: Examples ### Failure Behavior This converter never fails. When `where` does not match `Start` or `End`, the converter returns the input string unchanged. When the input value is `null` or `undefined`, the converter treats it as an empty string. See [[user-guide-automation-converters-index]] for the full set of failure patterns across converters.
