It bridges the connection between **Users** and their assigned **Workspaces**, ensuring that each operator, engineer, or supervisor accesses only the relevant areas, resources, and steps for their responsibilities. A **Workgroup** represents a shared operational context assigned to one or more users. It defines which **Steps**, **Resources**, and **Areas** are visible and actionable for that group, based on their Role and Position in the production process. When a user logs in - through RFID, card reader, or biometric authentication - the system automatically opens the default **Workspace** corresponding to the **Workgroup** assigned to that **User**. A **Workspace**, on the other hand, is assigned to a Role and acts as the graphical user interface (GUI) or cockpit for that function. It accepts a **Workgroup** as input, filtering the data and views according to the scope of interest defined by that **Workgroup**. With this model: * You can define multiple **Workspaces** for each **Role** (for example, dashboards for production, quality, or maintenance). For more information, see Manage Role Workspaces. * You can assign each **User** to one or more **Workgroups**, each defining a specific operational scope. For more information, see Manage User Workgroups and Copy User Workgroups. * When you assign an **User** to a **Workgroup**, their Position within that context is automatically defined. * You can standardize and reuse **Workspace** configurations across similar functions to ensure consistency and simplify setup. ## Tying Everything Together ```mermaid flowchart TD Main[Workgroup] -->B[Resource] Main --> C[Step] Main --> D[Area] E[User] --> Main F[Role] --> E G[Workspace] --> F classDef mermaid_businessdata color:#000, fill:#65CDE8, stroke:#65CDE8, stroke-width:0px, font-size:100%; classDef mermaid_nonbusinessdata color:#000, fill:#B7DEE8, stroke:#B7DEE8, stroke-width:0px, font-size:100%; classDef mermaid_entity color:#000, fill:#FB9F53, stroke:#FB9F53, stroke-width:0px, font-size:100%; classDef mermaid_entitylinked color:#000, fill:#FCD5B5, stroke:#FCD5B5, stroke-width:0px, font-size:100%; classDef mermaid_context color:#000, fill:#B9CDE5, stroke:#B9CDE5, stroke-width:0px, font-size:100%; classDef mermaid_optional color:#000, fill:#B7DEE8, stroke:#65CDE8, stroke-width:1px, font-size:100%, stroke-dasharray: 5 5; class Main mermaid_entity class B,C,D,G mermaid_businessdata class E,F mermaid_nonbusinessdata click Main "../../business-data/workgroup" click B "../../business-data/resource" click C "../../business-data/step" click D "../../business-data/area" click E "../../administration/security/users/" click F "../../administration/security/roles/" ``` ### Related Operations * Manage User Workgroups * Copy User Workgroups * Manage Role Workspaces * Create Workspace UI Page
