--- alias: user-guide-attachments description: "Manage attachments for objects, including files and external links, within the system" --- # Attachments :lock: *EntityTypeName*.**ManageAttachments** Any object can have a set of attachments that can be either internal files or external links. To add an attachment to an object, go to the **Attachments** sub-section of the object. The **Manage** option is available even when the object has no attachments. If the object does not have attachments, you can use the file upload area to: * Drag and drop a file. * Select **Browse File** to select a file from the device. * Select **Capture Image**, if the device has an available camera, to capture and add a picture directly as an attachment. ![Screenshot showing the Attachments section without attachments, with Browse File and Capture Image options.](../../images/attachments_no_attachments.png) If the object already has attachments, select **Capture Image** to capture and add a picture directly from the **Attachments** sub-section. ![Screenshot showing the Attachments section with existing attachments and the Capture Image option.](../../images/attachments_capture_image_shortcut.png) When using **Capture Image**, the system opens the **Capture Image** modal dialog. You can capture a picture, retake it as many times as needed, define the file extension, and optionally provide a file name. If no file name is provided, the system defines one automatically. ![Screenshot showing the Capture Image modal.](../../images/attachments_capture_image_modal.png) After uploading the picture, the system opens the **Manage Attachments** wizard with the new file already selected and ready to attach. The same preselection occurs when using **Browse File**. ![Screenshot showing the Manage Attachments wizard with a captured image ready to attach.](../../images/manage_attachments_captured_image.png) In the **Manage Attachments** wizard, when the Source is set to File, the file upload area supports drag and drop, **Browse File**, and **Capture Image**. When the Source is set to URL, provide the external link instead. You must also provide a Type and, optionally, a Description. ![Screenshot showing the Manage Attachments wizard with the file upload area.](../../images/manage_attachments_file_upload.png) In the **Attachments** sub-section, you can manage existing attachments, view them, capture a new image, or access more options from the toolbar. Downloading is only available for file attachments. ## Configuring attachment types To filter the types of attachments that will be displayed in the **Manage Attachments** wizard, the proper type of attachments must be added beforehand to the [[user-guide-attachments|AttachmentType]] generic table. Adding one or several entity types, and the respective attachment types, will only allow the attachments that match the Entity Type to be displayed in the respective contexts. !!! info The attachment type All refers to types that can be used for all entity types. ![attachment_types](../../images/attachment_types.png) When adding an attachment, the available Type values depend on this configuration. You can also attach as many files as needed by adding new rows in the **Manage Attachments** wizard and completing the required information.
