Discovery Service Introduction#

The goal of this section is to describe the Discovery Service component implemented in the Critical Manufacturing MES from an architectural perspective and also to describe how the Discovery Service is installed and configured.

Purpose and Scope#

The Discovery Service is a key component of highly-available infrastructures commonly used to improve the performance and availability of web sites, applications, databases and other services by distributing the workload across multiple servers.

A discovery service sits between the client and the servers accepting incoming network and application traffic and distributing the traffic across multiple back-end servers as illustrated in the figure below.
