What is a Name Generator#

A Name Generator is a configurable mechanism or function used to automatically create standardized, unique identifiers (names, codes, or labels) for various manufacturing entities and records.

These entities can include:

  • Production Orders
  • Lots or Batches
  • Work Orders
  • Serial numbers for Products or Materials
  • Equipment identifiers
  • Process instances
  • Data Collection entries

Essentially, Name Generators ensure that every key object within CM MES has a unique, traceable, and meaningful name.
