Maintenance Plan#
The Maintenance Plan, along with the Maintenance Activity Order (MAO) are the main entities for Maintenance Management in Critical Manufacturing MES. The Maintenance Plan is a reusable object that consists of a group of Maintenance Activities that are later assigned to Resources, Areas, Containers, or Materials and a Maintenance Plan Instance (MPI).

-
Navigate to Business Data Section in the MES and select Maintenance Plan
-
Select New to create a new Maintenance Plan
-
Complete the information needed in the General Data:
-
Choose the Type from the MaintenancePlanType Lookup Table.
-
Choose the Scope of the Maintenance Plan
-
Maintenance Management is used to define usual maintenance
-
In-Process Verification is used to support the Line Verification Scenario
Info
For more information about Line Verification, go to Line Verification.
-
-
Finally, select Create
Add Maintenance Activities#
Maintenance Activities are part of the Maintenance Plan definition, and this is where the type of maintenance and its details to execute will be defined.
-
Edit to add Activities to the Maintenance Plan
-
Select to open the activity definition
-
Fill in all the Activity Details in the specific tabs
Tip
It is possible to copy Maintenance Activities from another Maintenance Plan to the new one.
General Data#
In the General Data tab, along with Name and Description, the Maintenance and Schedule Type will be defined here.
The Schedule types available are:
- Time Based
- Usage Based
- Usage and Time Based
For these three types of Maintenance Schedule, Auto Disable After Late Due is a very important option to consider. If this option is enabled, the entity associated with the Maintenance Plan will be placed on Hold once the value for Late Due/Usage Late Due is reached and the Maintenance Activity Order has not been performed.
Also, when choosing these three Schedule types, it is possible to define whether the Maintenance Type is Preventive, Inspection, or Calibration, depending on the purpose of the Maintenance Activity.
Tip
To allow Track-In for Maintenance, as it is common to validate Material standards and quality before completing the MAO, Material Type Restriction Mode would have to be defined to Allow All (no Material Type needs to be defined) or Allow specific (a Material Type needs to be defined).
Info
For more information on the General Data tab, go to Create Maintenance Plan.
Schedule#
The Schedule tab will be displayed if the selected Maintenance is Preventive (Time Based, Usage Based, or Usage and Time Based). This tab is used to set the correct timing for the MAO to be scheduled and after executed.
Info
For more information on the Schedule tab, go to Create Maintenance Plan.
Execution#
The Execution tab is used to place any Data Collection, Checklist or SPC Chart to be executed while performing the Maintenance Activity. Any parameter that is considered important to register or a step-to-step tasks can be included through these entities in this particular tab.
Info
For more information on the Execute tab, Checklist, Data Collection or Data Collection Limit Set, go to Create Maintenance Plan.
Parts#
The Parts tab will allow the executer to consume or replace parts in the Resource, through a defined BOM of scope Parts, that has BOM Items that can be consumed or repaired accordingly.
Tip
To restrict the used parts only to what is defined in the BOM Items the Restrict Parts to BOM must be set to true. If no BOM is defined and if Restrict Parts to BOM is set to false, the Maintenance Technician can still consume Parts that are available in the Facility. This is useful while performing an ad hoc MAO and for some unpredicted reason, a Part is needed to replace something in the machine.
Tip
Products defined in the BOM can have substitute Products, that would work as an alternative in case of stock rupture, for example.
Info
For more information about BOM, BOM items and Parts tab, go to Create Maintenance Plan.
Personnel#
Personnel tab is where the labor requirements are defined to guarantee that only qualified users will Check-In into the MAO and perform it.
Info
For more information about the Personnel tab, go to Create Maintenance Plan.
Documents#
Documents to support the Maintenance Activity Order can be included in this tab.
Info
For more information about the Documents tab, go to Create Maintenance Plan.
Rules#
Rules can be defined for Time Based, Usage Based and Usage and Time Based Maintenance Activities to define actions to be triggered from a particular schedule state.
Info
For more information about the Rules tab, go to Create Maintenance Plan.
Other Maintenance Activities#
Whenever a Maintenance Activity can be included in another, the relation between MA must be settled in the Contains Tab. What is defined here is used in the Join and Separate functionalities.
Info
For more information about the Join/Separate Maintenance Activities and Contains tab, go to Create Maintenance Plan.
When you have finished configuring the Activities, select the Save button on the top ribbon to save all changes to the Maintenance Plan Activities.
Let's now create a Maintenance Plan Instance that will generate the Maintenance Activity Orders. Continue to Maintenance Plan Instance.
