# How to: Open Material Deviation

### 1\. Go to the Business Data menu.

### 2\. Select the Protocol entity.

### 3\. Create a new Protocol.

### 4\. Set the Scope of the Protocol to Material Deviation.

### 5\. Add a Default Owner.

### 6\. Approve the Protocol and set it as effective.

### 7\. Select the Checklist entity.

### 8\. Create a new Checklist and its items.

### 9\. Set the Scope of the Checklist to Material Tracking.

### 10\. Set the Execution Mode of the Checklist to Long Running.

### 11\. Associate the Material Deviation Protocol to the Checklist.

### 12\. Approve the Checklist and set it as effective.

### 13\. Change view to Checklist Items.

### 14\. Select the Open For Material button.

### 15\. Search and select the Material you need, and select Open.

### 16\. Open the Checklist Instance.

### 17\. Select a Checklist item.

The Open Deviation button becomes available.

### 18\. Select the appropriate Material Deviation.
