# Opening a Protocol

## Overview

This operation is used to open a Protocol for a Chart Data Point of a Logical Chart.

## Setup

No special setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction.

## Preconditions

* The **Chart** has the property Allow User Triggered Protocols set to `true`.

## Sequence of Steps

### Step 1

1. In the Logical Chart, select the Chart Data Point.
2. Select Open Protocol to open the Open Protocol Instance for Chart Data Point wizard.
3. Select the Protocol to be used (the list will contain all the protocols associated with the **Chart**).
4. Optionally, enter a comment.
5. Select **Open** to complete the transaction.
