--- tags: - packing alias: pack-material description: "This documentation outlines the process of packing materials into packages, managing quantities and tracking operations" --- # Pack Material :lock: Material.**Pack** ## Overview This operation is used to Pack a **Material** into one or multiple packages. This is the Level 1 packing operation which is possible for different content types: * Material Quantity Single/Multiple (Package is not trackable) - has Primary Quantity and Sub-Materials are equal to zero. * Material Ids (Package is trackable) - has Sub-Materials and Primary Quantity is equal to zero. ## Setup No specific setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction. ## Preconditions * The **Material Logistics** module is properly licensed in the system. * The **Material** must be Active, and Non-Template. * The **Material** must be In Process and the Assembly Type must be Packing. * The **Material** must not be On Hold. * The **Material** Current BOM Version contains only one BOM Product, the **Product** is of Product Type Packing, and this BOM Product does not contain substitutes. * If the property Packing Step of the **Step** associated to the **Material** is set to `True`, the system must ensure the following: * The **Material** is TopMost and has a Maximum Material Depth of 1. This means that the Sub-Material Count of their **Sub-Materials** must all be zero. * The **Material** Package Count is greater than zero. * The **Material** Primary Units must match the Packed Quantity Units of any Active Package of that **Material**. * The **Material** and **Sub-Materials** Primary Quantity must be equal to the Total Packed Quantity of all the Active Packages that reference that **Material** - including Packages of Content Type Material Ids. * Taking into account all the Active Material Packages that reference the **Material**, their depth from their TopMost Parent Package must be greater or equal to the Step From Packing Level Minus One and less or equal to the Step To Packing Level. ## Sequence of Steps ### Step 1: General Data - Material Quantity 1. Select **Pack** on the top ribbon. ![Screenshot showing a UI with a selected "Pack" option on the top ribbon.](images/pack_material_01.png) 2.
