--- alias: user-guide-clone-sampling-pattern description: "This documentation outlines cloning a sampling pattern, creating new instances with identical characteristics" --- # Clone Sampling Pattern :lock: SamplingPattern.**Clone** ## Overview This operation is used to clone an existing **Sampling Pattern** into a new **Sampling Pattern** with a different name and identical characteristics. ## Setup No specific setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction. ## Preconditions * The **Sampling Pattern** exists in the system. ## Sequence of Steps The Clone Sampling Pattern wizard can be called from the **Sampling Pattern** page within the Business Data Group. The default values will be taken from the current **Sampling Pattern** to be used as a base for the new object. ### Step 1: General Data 1. On the left side panel, add as many rows as desired (each row represents a new **Sampling Pattern** to be created based on the currently selected **Sampling Pattern**) by selecting :material-plus: and specifying the property values for each new instance to be created. You can also provide a name for each of the new instances, however if a **Name Generator** is configured for the Entity Type, you can leave the field blank and a new name will be automatically generated. 2. Optionally, enter a comment for the operation. 3. Select **Clone** to complete the transaction and a new object will be created. !!! info For more information on these and other features of cloning, see [[user-guide-clone]]. ![Screenshot showing a UI with a "Clone" button, used for creating a copy of an object.](images/clone_sampling_pattern.png)
