# Edit Asset

## Overview

This operation is used to edit an **Asset**.  

## Setup

No specific setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction.

## Preconditions

* The IoT Data Platform module is properly licensed in the system.
* The **Asset** exists in the system.

## Sequence of Steps

The Edit Asset wizard can be called from the **Asset Directory** page within the **Data Platform** menu.

### Step 1: General Data

1. Select the **Asset Directory** from the dropdown box on the left side of the screen.
2. Select the appropriate **Asset** from the **Asset Directory** tree.
3. Select the **Edit** button located on the top ribbon.
4. The **Asset** will be put in editing mode and no additional dialog will be displayed. You can edit all available properties displayed in the information panels where the **Asset** is displayed. After performing the necessary changes, select the **Save** button located on the top ribbon to complete the operation.

    The Name and Class of the Asset cannot be altered. All other non-system properties can be altered.
