# Move Asset

## Overview

This operation is used to move an **Asset**, changing the parent **Asset** from which it is attached.

## Setup

No specific setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction.

## Preconditions

* The IoT Data Platform module is properly licensed in the system.
* The **Asset** exists in the system.

## Sequence of Steps

The Move Asset wizard can be called from the **Asset Directory** page within the **Data Platform** menu.

### Step 1: General Data

1. Select the **Asset Directory** from the dropdown box on the left side of the screen.
2. Select the appropriate **Asset** from the **Asset Directory** tree.
3. Select **Move** in the **More** button on the top ribbon.
4. Select the **Asset Directory** to which the **Asset** will be moved.
5. Select the **Asset** that will become the new Parent of the current **Asset**, either by selecting it from the **Asset Directory** tree or by searching for it in the available selection box.

	      If you search for a specific Parent Asset name, the system will navigate to the Asset in the Asset Directory tree so that it is easier for you to find the appropriate Asset when a large number of Assets are included in the tree.

6. Select **Move** to complete the operation.
