--- alias: user-guide-clone-iot-event-definition description: "Clone an existing IoT event definition to create a new, identical version" --- # Clone IoT Event Definition :lock: IoTEventDefinition.**Clone** ## Overview This operation is used to clone an existing **IoT Event Definition** into a new **IoT Event Definition** with a different name and identical characteristics. ## Setup No specific setup is required other than to meet the preconditions of the transaction. ## Preconditions * The **IoT Event Definition** exists in the system. ## Sequence of Steps The Clone IoT Event Definition wizard can be called from the **IoT Event Definition** page within the Business Data Group. The default values will be taken from the current **IoT Event Definition** to be used as a base for the new object. Follow these steps: 1. On the left side panel, add as many rows as desired (each row represents a new **IoT Event Definition** to be created based on the currently selected **IoT Event Definition**) by selecting :material-plus: and specifying the property values for each new instance to be created. You can also provide a name for each of the new instances, however if a **Name Generator** is configured for the Entity Type, you can leave the field blank and a new name will be automatically generated. 2. Optionally, enter a comment for the operation. 3. Select **Clone** to complete the operation and a new object will be created. ![clone_iot_event_definition][clone_iot_event_definition] !!! info For more information on these and other features of cloning, see [[user-guide-clone]].
