Cloning an Object#
The process of cloning an object is the copy of all basic properties and characteristics from the original entity to a new copy of that object. While the process to clone an entity object is identical for versioned and non-versioned entities at the version level, there are several differences when you clone an object at entity or revision levels. When cloning a new revision or version, the system must clone all the entity level, revision level and version level properties, attributes, etc. and maintain them at the same level.
All entities allow cloning and you can select the number of clones that will be created at any single time by using the multiple clone button and specifying the number of clones that will be generated.
Note
You must specify names for each of the clones you want to create.
Cloning a Non-Versioned Entity Object#
When you clone an entity, you create a new entity altogether and the process will automatically generate a new entity object based on the entity being cloned. This process takes place for both versioned and non-versioned entities, with no change-control process applied to non-versioned entities, much like what happens when creating an object directly. For more information, see Creating Entity Objects.
Cloning a Versioned Entity Object#
In the case of versioned entity objects, you can choose between cloning the entire entity or a single revision. Cloning a versioned entity will create a new versioned entity altogether, comprised of a new revision and a new version. This process requires a Change Set to allow the version to be set as Active and eventually as Effective.
An entity can be cloned from any existing revision and version by selecting Entity from the Clone button the top ribbon
Info
You can only change the basic details of the original entity if you decide to clone the complete entity.
Cloning a Revision#
Cloning a single revision will create a new revision based on the features and characteristics of the original revision while remaining associated to the same original entity. A Change Set will be associated to the first version that is created and associated to the new revision.
A revision can be cloned from any existing revision by selecting Revision from the Clone button the top ribbon.
